At Astory Media, we have the privilege of working with artists who carry Ireland’s musical story forward, and few embody that spirit more than Gerry O’Connor, one of Ireland’s most respected fiddle players.

Recently, our team filmed Gerry performing at The Long Grazing Acre, a project that celebrates the Travelling community’s deep influence on Irish traditional music. The event took place at Lumpers Bar in Ravensdale, County Louth, and brought together generations of musicians, singers, and families who keep this music alive.

A Master of the Irish Fiddle

Gerry O’Connor is known across Ireland and beyond for his extraordinary skill on the fiddle. His playing is both technical and emotional, rooted in heritage yet full of life and creativity.

Over the years, Gerry has toured internationally, produced music through his own label, and crafted and sold the very violins he plays. His work connects tradition, craftsmanship, and performance in a way that few artists manage to achieve.

The Long Grazing Acre

The Long Grazing Acre is an Arts Council supported project coordinated by Anna Legge and co-curated by Tommy Fegan. It shines a light on the immense contribution of the Travelling community to Ireland’s cultural heritage.

The final concert in the three-part tour took place at The Summit Venue, Lumpers Bar, where the energy in the room was unforgettable. Gerry’s performance stood out as one of those rare moments that bring everyone together through pure and honest music.

More Than a Performance

When Gerry played, the audience was listening to more than a tune. It was listening to history, to the voices of generations who shaped Irish traditional music. That connection between people and place is what makes Gerry’s music so powerful.

His dedication to teaching and mentoring young musicians ensures that the tradition continues to grow. In every project he takes part in, from local workshops to international tours, Gerry helps others find their own sound within the Irish tradition.

Capturing the Moment

🎥 The performance was filmed and produced by Astory Media as part of The Long Grazing Acre video series, featuring artists such as Paddy Keenan, Colleen Savage, and Colette Joyce. These videos are now live on YouTube, capturing the atmosphere, sound, and spirit of the night.👉 Watch Gerry O’Connor’s performance
